The Victorian Meat Industry Act 1993

Can I sell the meat or give to others?

The Victorian Meat Industry Act 1993 expressly prohibits the slaughter of livestock other than at an abattoir to produce meat for sale, but does allow farmers to slaughter their own livestock on their farm for private consumption at home.

Meat from these animals is not permitted to be traded or for that matter, to leave the property, according to the state's meat safety regulator PrimeSafe. This is a good law which ensures the integrity of the food chain. So, you have been told!
